WHY THIS BLOG

On June 26, 2011 I was involved in a major accident. I had fallen from my bike and got hit by an oncoming car. Both my lungs collapsed and I had over two dozen fractures on both sets of ribs.

In the beginning I did not want to put the news of my accident on Facebook, as my primary concern was not to alarm people who were cyclists or to deter anyone from cycling: that is how passionate I am about road cycling! In addition I was in the middle of promoting my  Reggae Ride and so this was not going to be good advertising! Bad timing! lol

When I was offered this procedure (Titanium Rib plates) it had never been done at Memorial Regional Hospital, and the surgeon Dr Pepe, had never done the surgery by himself either . This procedure was still relatively new!  They had a very  short window to make the preparations, as once the ribs started to heal, you cannot turn the clock back and have the surgery later. So a choice had to be made and it had to be made fast.

So I am writing this blog, because perhaps someone else out there may have to make this decision one day, and my story may give them the answers and/or the hope they need.

And so, I share my story.

  1. Hi Jennifer "Storm"

So happy to have found your post and so happy to hear that your doing well.
I too have had the surgery last June 29, 2012 I was in a motorcycle accident.
I now have 6 metal ribs and a metal collarbone as well.
However I am still in recovery, presently I am waiting on another surgery as my broken scapula never healed and is still causing problems.
I will be going in for more metal as they will plate it also back to proper position.

I hope your doing good take care and safe riding :-)
